Vacancies at MPD

One PhD position in experimental high energy physics
at the Institute of Physics, Jan Kochanowski University (Kielce, Poland),
on the subject: “Multipllicity fluctuations in collisions of relativistic ions”

in the group of prof. Maciej Rybczynski (https://orcid.org/0000-0002-3638-3766).

The principal purpose of the project is to provide new results on multiplicity fluctuations obtained in the novel experimental conditions offered by the Multi Purpose Detector (MPD) experiment at Nuclotron-based Ion Collider fAcility (NICA) build at the Joint Institute for Nuclear Research (JINR) in Dubna, Russian Federation. The planned energy range of the colliding ions (3<sqrt(s_NN)<11 GeV) and the broad range of available ions (from protons to Au) allows for detailed study of the dynamical fluctuations and correlations in the unique experimental conditions. Close relation to other ongoing experiments (NA61/SHINE, STAR) and future ones (such as CBM) are expected.
The Institute of Physics at Jan Kochanowski University is active in the field of high energy physics, both theoretically thanks to the work of W. Broniowski, S. Mrowczysnki, and F. Giacosa, and experimentally thanks to M. Gazdzicki (head of NA61/SHINE experiment at CERN and leader of a large group at Kielce), G. Stefanek, and Z. Wlodarczyk. Moreover, the institute is active in molecular and atomic physics (own experimental setup EBIT).
We look for a PhD candidate with interest and proven skills in the subject of experimental physics. The PhD student will also participate to the PhD school of the Jan Kochanowski University, which lasts 4 years. For information about the PhD school, see https://sd.ujk.edu.pl/en/
Deadline for the application: 31/8/2021.
Start: 1/10/2021.
PhD duration: 4 years.
Salary: in average, about ca. 5000 PLN (1100 euro) netto per month during the first two years and 6000 PLN (1350 euro) netto per month during the next two years.
PhD student can be accommodated at the student dorms of the university. Average life costs about 1/3 of west-europe. In terms of buying power, good life standards are allowed.
Application: a single pdf with cv, documents (scans of diploma, etc), short description of scientific interests, and the emails and addresses of two senior scientists, who can provide a recommendation letter if requested, to be sent to: maciej.rybczynski@ujk.edu.pl
Interviews with selected candidates will take place via skype or a similar platform at the beginning of September 2021.
Shortly after the above deadline the selected candidate will be contacted. Feel free to contact (maciej.rybczynski@ujk.edu.pl) for any further info.
